What started as a blogpost series of drawings of mythological creatures has now been made into a beautifully illustrated book! Steve Prescott’s Alphabet Book of Mythological Beings features 26 different mythological beings for each letter of the alphabet. Each dynamic vignette illustration is accompanied by an informative (and lightly humorous) description of that mythological being and was hand selected from myths, religion, and folklore from all around the world – including some familiar favorites like Cerberus and Anubis but also some you may have never heard of before like Namorodo and Ga-Gorib. This book is a perfect addition to anyone’s collection of books on mythology, mythological creatures, or fantasy art.

Plus, in this special edition, author/artist Steve Prescott personalizes the title page with a unique original drawing (see examples in the photos to the left there!)

I got my book in the mail two days ago and it is amazing! First off, Mr. Prescott drew a Phoenix for me which blew my mind because I didn’t actually think he would (I just left a note in my order saying that I really hope he would draw one and a winky face) and it actually happened so thanks Steve! Second, the book is fantastic for these reasons:
    1. The mythological creatures in the book are not ones you conventionally hear about. They are diverse, and they come from cultures all over the world. The uniqueness of these creatures were refreshing to read about and I definitely learned about new creatures that I had no idea existed in the first place and that’s pretty awesome.
    2. The drawings are fantastic. They are gorgeous and it was very cool to see Steve’s take on them.
    3. The descriptions for each creature are written in an informative but comedic tone which was something that I didn’t expect but it made me laugh. So that was cool.
    4. The book is hardcover, and the pages are definitely a lot thicker than regular paper. I didn’t expect the book to come with thicken and tougher pages but it is really nice. The surface of each page also feels glossy.

Will definitely be reading this to my kids whenever that happens. 10/10, please make more. 🙂

    • Thanks for the kind words, Bernice! Glad you enjoyed the book!
